Friends, Lovers, Chocolate by Alexander McCall-Smith

Friends, Lovers, Chocolate (Sunday Philosophy Club, Book 2) Friends, Lovers, Chocolate by Alexander McCall Smith

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I enjoyed the stories associated with The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and this series is no exception. Whereas the former series is set in Africa, this detective series is in Edinburgh Scotland.

Love the character of Isabel Dalhousie, who is a philosopher and editor of the magazine - Review of Applied Ethics.

It would appear that Isabel loves to solve problems, and she has a few of her own, such as being in love withJamie, who was her nieces's boyfriend, and much younger than her.

Looking forward to reading more stories feature Isabel.

Heavenly Pleasures by Kerry Greenwood

Heavenly Pleasures: a Corinna Chapman novel (Book 2) Heavenly Pleasures: a Corinna Chapman novel by Kerry Greenwood

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Corinna is a baker and owns a shop called Earthly Delights. Where he lives in Flinders Lane, Melbourne is an area that has a wonderful assortment of people and buinesses. One such business is a chocolate shop called Heavenly Pleasures (my type of shop).

The chocolate shop is being sabotaged by someone who is doctoring the chocolates with chilli!.

Corinna enlists Daniel, her lover to help solve the mystery.

Lots of cat antics through the story, as the tenants in the building where Corinna works and lives have these beloved animals.

Young Jason, is the apprentice in the bakery, who experiments with making the perfect muffin. He comes up with a good chocolate muffin recipe, which is featured in the book and I will put the recipe on my blog. (http://burrum-bookgroup.blogspot.com/)

Here is the recipe for CHOCOLATE ORGASM MUFFINS

Be careful eating these. Straight out of the oven the melted chocolate can burn your tongue, like the hot jame in a doughnut. Refresh them when cold with 20 seconds in the microwave.
For the muffins:
2 cups self raising flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup brown sugar
125g melted butter
2 eggs
1 cup milk

For the filling:
200g bittersweet chocolate
1/2 cup thickened cream

Preheat the oven to 200degrees C and greae two 6-cup muffin trays.
Make the filling by melting the chocolate and cream together, either 2 minutes in a microwave or just stir it in a saucepan on the stove until it melts and combines. Set it aside.

For the muffins, mix the flour, cocoa and brown sugar together in a large bowl.Using a separate bowl, mix together the butter, eggs and milk. Pour the egg mixture into the flour and slap it about a bit.

Using a metal spoon, put a glob of muffin mix into the tins, filling them less than halfway. Then put a glob of filling into each tin, then top with the rest of the muffin mix. You now have muffins with a spoonful of chocolate sauce in the middle of each one. Do this quickly, or they will still taste nice but they won't rise.

Shove into the oven and bake for about 12 minutes (you should know how your oven works).
They are cooked when they spring back when poked.

Funny how some come together quite easily and others take a lot more time.

Good story - of the sea, a fanatical community and a journey from England to South America by yacht.

tim Blackburn's wife is killed as she sails their boat out of the English Channel - later it is discovered that a bomb had been planted on the boat.

The realisation comes to Tim that it could have been their daughter, Nicole, who disappeared with the founder of the Genesis community. He sets sail to find the truth and along the way, finds a new love with a young journalist, Jacki, who is also seeking to find the truth about Genesis.

Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly

Seven Deadly Wonders: A Novel Seven Deadly Wonders: A Novel by Matthew Reilly

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was swept away with this story - action packed and it is the book to read before The Six Sacred Stones.

A great story of the ancient wonders and especially liked the historical content.

Also the analogy that was made to the Catholic Church, Freemasons and Ancient Egyptian sun cult - the Cult of Amun-Ra.

This has led me to see if I can get the book titled Secret Chamber by Egyptologist, Robert Bauval (non-fiction book).

This book was mentioned by the author in his acknowledgement.

You feel as though you are following an Indiana Jones character, with his followers.

Summerland by Michael Chabon

Summerland Summerland by Michael Chabon

My review

As I don't know anything about baseball, found the terminology a bit muddled. Tended to skip these parts in the story.

Apart from that, it is a good read, and a story of folklore, with the band of "goodies" consisting of all kinds of magical animals.

Ethan Feld is the young hero, along with Jennifer T (both of them baseball players), and their mission is to try and stop the end of the world.

KNITTED BALACLAVA PATTERN

I just had to post a comment about the pattern that I put onto my Blog some months back. It appears that a lot of people are downloading the pattern, which I think is great.
Phoned my mother to let her know, as she was the one who knitted the balaclava, and also rewrote the pattern from some old ones that I had found on the internet.
So a big thank you to all the people who have got onto my blog and downloaded the pattern. You have made an elderly lady very happy (though she is 76, has more energy and drive than people much younger).
